FAREWELL: TERRY DUNLEAVY
We were very sorry to hear of the death of Terry Dunleavy, who passed away recently, aged 93. During his 50-year involvement with the wine industry he was a well-respected mentor and advisor to many, and the driving force behind bringing New Zealand wine exports to the world’s attention. Terry was the inaugural CEO of the Wine Institute of New Zealand and founding editor of the industry’s official magazine, New Zealand Winegrower. He was made MBE in the 1990 New Year Honours for services to the wine industry and the community, and was elected a fellow of the Wine Institute of New Zealand in 1996. In 1988, Terry and some of his family members bought vineyard land on Waiheke Island, producing their first vintage of Te Motu Wines in 1993.
